Deciduous-coniferous Tree Classification Using Difference between First and Last Pulse Laser Signatures

چکیده
In this paper, a deciduous-coniferous tree classification mechanism is proposed, tested and analyzed using solely laser scanner data. The data were acquired under leaf-off conditions by Toposys II system. Under such circumstance, sources of last pulse hits of deciduous and coniferous are different, which allows concise discrimination between these two species. Tree positions were located from first pulse DSM, species were identified by the difference between two pulse data and field measurements were used for validation. The classification results demonstrate that first-last pulse laser data, under leaf-off condition, is ideal for deciduous and coniferous trees classification; and also indicate that the data collected for high accuracy DEM production is also suitable for forest investigation. * Corresponding author.

Mobile Laser Scanning data were collected simultaneously with hyperspectral data using the Finnish Geodetic Institute Sensei system. The data were tested for tree species classification. The test area was an urban garden in the City of Espoo, Finland. Point clouds representing 168 individual tree specimens of 23 tree species were determined manually. The classification of the trees was done usi...
متن کاملLaser-scanning for the Derivation of Forest Stand Parameters
Forest stand parameters are derived from airborne laser scanner data. Data from three laser scanner flights by the company "TopoSys" are used, a winter flight with last pulse recorded and two summer flights, with last and first pulse recorded respectively. The laser data are reduced to relative (ground) heights with a high quality ground elevation model (DEM) that was interpolated from the wint...
متن کاملDetection of Aspens Using High Resolution Aerial Laser Scanning Data and Digital Aerial Images
The aim was to use high resolution Aerial Laser Scanning (ALS) data and aerial images to detect European aspen (Populus tremula L.) from among other deciduous trees. The field data consisted of 14 sample plots of 30 m × 30 m size located in the Koli National Park in the North Karelia, Eastern Finland. A Canopy Height Model (CHM) was interpolated from the ALS data with a pulse density of 3.86/m2...

Airborne remote sensing data from different types of sensors are tested within the Bavarian Forest National Park for estimation of forest attributes using several analysis methodologies. In this study, one algorithm that earlier has been validated for Swedish conditions was applied. The algorithm estimates tree position, tree height, and crown diameter of individual trees. The Bavarian Forest N...
